5 Reasons to Choose Powder Coating

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

Paint products have been the traditional form of application that most people have gravitated towards. But before you reach for a bucket of paint, it’s important to weigh out all the options to ensure you are choosing the option that will warrant you long term benefits. Powder coating is an innovative product that can get your old appliances looking brand new again while providing durability and a clean finish. At Modern Powder Coatings we saw an opportunity in this industrial space and wanted to create awareness of the incredible versatility of this product. Chances are, many of the furnitures or equipment you have used have been applied with powder coating to give it a quality finish. Here are the reasons why we believe powder coating is the best metal protective covering.

As many say, it looks like paint but it acts like armour. Powder coating forms a protective finish that is much harder than the conventional paint. It is resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing better than other finishes. In fact, powder coating can maintain its finish up to 15 to 20 years as its chemical makeup makes it resistant to various weather conditions. The powders also provide a more uniform coating since they don’t drip or run allowing the colours to stay vibrant for longer than normal paint.

Environmental Impact

At Modern Powder Coating we value the sustainable benefits that our product provides. During the process of powder coating, the powder that does not adhere to the surface being coated is collected and reused, meaning there is little waste. Given that the coating process happens in a contained environment, there is little risk of air pollution. The reduced carbon dioxide emissions, hazardous waste requiring disposal and the need of primer before the coating application is why clients usually gravitate towards this coating process.

Cost Effectiveness

Building off of the previous point since the powder coating process produces little waste, less material is used to coat the product. Unlike the application of liquid coatings where areas that are oversprayed are immediately lost and wasted, the uncontaminated powder overspray can be reclaimed and recycled for future coating applications. The material utilization rate is close to 100% which ensures you are getting the bang for your buck.

You can complete powder coats in a single application which makes the process quicker and more efficient. Compared to wet paint, the processing times are shorter since there are no solvents or flash off periods required. The powder coated articles can pass directly into the oven, allowing us to handle large orders and materials.

Colour selection for powder coating is virtually unlimited with high and low gloss, metallic, and clean finishes available. These colours are long lasting and stay vibrant despite the different conditions the product is put through. A wide range of texture options are possible as well from smooth surfaces to a wrinkled or matte finish. These range of colours and finishes are possible through being able to mix and manipulate the powders beforehand. To see the diverse colour options we offer click here.

The benefits of powder coating can be simplified into one sentence - a longer lasting finish for your product with a reduced environmental footprint.
